Wolves fans slam ‘woeful’ midfielder Ruben Neves after Liverpool loss

Ruben Neves completed 90 minutes in the loss at home to Liverpool in the Premier League – and some of the Wolverhampton Wanderers fans on Twitter teared into him for his performance.

The 21-year-old midfielder is a mainstay in the starting XI, but he was unable to halt an in-form Liverpool team that will be top of the league table at Christmas.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s side were beaten 2-0 at Molineux by the leaders, who scored a goal in each half through Mohamed Salah and Virgil Van Dijk.

The result means the Midlands club missed the change to leapfrog Manchester United in the table and remain seventh for now.

Wolves did have their chances in front of goal to pull off an upset, but weren’t clinical enough in attack and ended up drawing a blank against a resilient defence.

Neves came in for criticism from a selection of fans on social media for his efforts against Liverpool and he did find it tough alongside Romain Saiss and Joao Moutinho.

The Portuguese ace is a deep-lying playmaker who is at his most dangerous when he can pick his head up and have time on the ball, something that was at a premium on Friday.

He continues to be a regular feature in Nuno’s team, but the suggestion is that fans want to see more from him.

Here are some of the Wolves fan tweets on Neves:
