Ryan Giles was handed his senior debut in the draw against Shrewsbury Town on Saturday – and there was a mixed response on Twitter from supporters to his performance.

Nuno Espirito Santo named a fairy strong side for the FA Cup tie, with the 19-year-old given a special appearance on his birthday.

But they were stunned by League One Shrewsbury, who were two goals in front before a late comeback meant the contest ended 2-2.

Wolves will now have to negotiate a cup replay at home and many feel they can go deep into the competition this season.

Giles was a surprise name in the starting XI at the weekend and slotted in at the left wing-back position.

The English full-back is a product of the club’s academy and is the latest player to come through the system to the senior ranks.

He was fairly solid for large spells against Shrewsbury without taking too many risks and has proven at youth level he can provide a lot more going forward.

Wolves don’t have a wealth of options for the wing-back slot and Giles could surely come into contention for a permeant back-up role if he managed to impress his manager.

There was a split within fans on social media about his contribution, but it was of course his first time stepping up to the top level.
