Doherty, who has made 302 appearances for the Black Country club, is seen as a potential replacement for Serge Aurier, who has been linked with the likes of AC Milan and Bayer Leverkusen.

The 28-year-old has particularly impressed since Wolves’ promotion back to the Premier League in 2018.

Doherty – who Tottenham are hoping to snare for around £12 million according to the report – has been a key player for Wolves, and it appears Jose Mourinho is a fan.

The Portuguese has historically always favoured physical players, which is certainly a trait of 6ft 2in Doherty.

It was hardly surprising to see the majority of Wolves fans on social media not taking too kindly to the reported interest from the north Londoners.

In their eyes, Doherty remains a key member of the team and somebody who is ideal for Nuno Espirito Santo’s system.
