Wolverhampton Wanderers manager Nuno Espirito Santo has effectively confirmed defender Jesus Vallejo will return to Real Madrid.

Despite Willy Boly suffering a serious ankle injury in October, Vallejo was not trusted by Espirito Santo who preferred to use the likes of Romain Saiss and Leander Dendoncker at the back.

During his time at the club Vallejo has made just seven appearances, with just two of those coming in the Premier League.

Speaking about the 22-year-old yesterday, Espirito Santo said (Birmingham Mail): “I’m going to be clear with you. Jesus Vallejo is probably going. He wants to play. He’s a young and talented player that we brought here with high expectations, but it didn’t work out.

“It’s time for him to go and find a club that he can play at and keep on progressing because the talent is there.

“Now we look at why, but we don’t have much time so let’s move forward.”

TBR’s view – Wolves right to get rid

Wolves are right to send Vallejo back to Madrid, as clearly he isn’t contributing to the Wolves first-team.

It is a shame things haven’t worked out given his promise – he arrived having led the Spain U21s to European Championship glory.

He is a talent, but perhaps just unsuited to the pace and physicality of English football.

He could well go on to fare fantastically at another club, but Wolves are right to let go.
