Wolves fans react as Leander Dendoncker impresses despite Sevilla defeat

Wolverhampton Wanderers suffered a cruel defeat to Spanish side and Europa League experts on Tuesday night as Sevilla earned a late 1-0 win over Nuno Santo’s side – and fans have reacted to Leander Dendoncker’s display.

Striker Raul Jimenez will be ruing his missed penalty in the first 45, as Bono kept his spot kick out. Wolves sat back and looked to defend throughout, but their normal counter-attacking style was not on show.

Eventually, Sevilla delivered a hammer blow as Julian Lopetegui’s side dominated possession. Ever Banega’s excellent cross was met with an even better header from Lucas Ocampos, who looked dangerous throughout.

Despite enjoying just 27% of possession, Dendoncker impressed with a number of defensive blocks and duels won during the tight affair. It was the 25-year-old’s 57th appearance of the season, in all competitions.

Dendoncker, who joined Wolves on a permanent deal last summer for £12million (Express & Star), will be forced to wonder what could have been had Jimenez scored his penalty – with Sevilla progressing to face Manchester United.

Wolves fans, though, heaped plenty of praise on their Belgium international as the former Anderlecht star impressed throughout the 90 minutes, alongside Portuguese duo Ruben Neves and Joao Moutinho in the middle of the park.
