Wolves fans react as club reportedly keen on signing Jan Vertonghen

Wolverhampton Wanderers are reportedly interested in signing Jan Vertonghen this summer after the Belgian left Tottenham Hotspur on a free transfer this week – and Wolves fans have reacted on Twitter.

Vertonghen, 33, ended his eight-year stay at Tottenham this week after his contract with the north London club expired. The former Ajax man had seen his contract end in June, but decided to remain until the end of the season.

A left-footed centre-back, Vertonghen played 315 times for Spurs and has clocked up 118 appearances for Belgium’s national team – many alongside Leander Dendoncker. He has more than 650 professional games under his belt.

Italian website Il Messaggero claim Wolves are interested in signing Vertonghen this summer on a free transfer following his Spurs exit – but face competition from Atletico Madrid and AS Roma.

Vertonghen has been strongly linked with moves to Italy and Spain, a return to Ajax and even Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City. But Wolves are the latest new name to be considered with a move for Vertonghen.

Many Wolves supporters reacted on Twitter to the news that Vertonghen was a target for the Midlands club in the coming weeks, and many are desperate to see Vertonghen signed. He wants just £50k-a-week until 2023.
