Wolverhampton Wanderers were beaten 1-0 by Portuguese opponents Braga on Thursday night – and some of the club’s supporters on Twitter picked out Ryan Bennett for major criticism.
After progressing through three qualifying rounds, Wolves started the group stages of the Europa League with a disappointing defeat against Braga at Molineux.
Nuno Espirito Santo’s side have zero wins from their opening five Premier League games and were unable to give themselves a much-needed lift on Thursday.
Wolves have certainly made a slow start to the 2019/20 campaign and are yet to replicate the kind of form they showed consistency last season.
They lacked cutting edge in attack against Braga, who snatched the three points when Ricardo Horta fired in the winner on 71 minutes.
Bennett was certainly the guilty party for the Braga goal, as his misplaced pass meant he lost possession and the opposition scored from that counter attack.
The 29-year-old centre-back was one of the consistent performers for Nuno’s team last season and is proven in the back three.
But an individual error let down his team in midweek and a number of his teammates have made uncharacteristic mistakes too lately.
A selection of Wolves supporters on social media were fuming with Bennett for his latest display.
It will be intriguing to see if he manages to maintain his spot in the starting XI for a crucial league fixture away to Crystal Palace on Sunday.
Here are some Wolves fans ripping into Bennett:
Get out of my club Ryan Bennett

That’s going to do Bennett no good👀

That’s what happens when you play Ryan Bennett in a European cup match.

Hope everyone who wanted Bennett back in the team is happy 😂

The problem with Bennett is that he’s not a ball playing CB. He’s solid in the tackle and will win headers but give him the ball at his feet and it starts getting iffy. If we stay with this formation, I think Vallejo has to start. #wwfc

I’d rather smash my head against a wall than watch Bennett play football

Ryan Bennett needs to do better for me. You can’t lose the ball in the middle of the park from a simple 10 yard pass when the back three are pushed up to the half way line to press. Apart from the long throw, he played the majority of passes backwards today #WWFC
