Wolves fans praise Daniel Podence after performance against Espanyol

Wolverhampton Wanderers booked their spot in the Europa League last-16 draw despite defeat to Espanyol on Thursday – and some of the club’s supporters on Twitter picked out Daniel Podence for huge praise for his performance.

Wolves annihilated the Spanish opposition 4-0 last week at Molineux in the first leg, which meant they were in a strong position going into their second meeting.

Nunu Espirito Santo’s side ended up losing 3-2 with the La Liga side in the second leg, handing them a 6-3 aggregate lead in the Round of 32 tie.

Adama Traore and Matt Doherty were both on the scoresheet for the visitors, who made five changes from the weekend.

Wolves were certainly nowhere near their fluent best without some key players and were surprisingly vulnerable in defence.

But a selection of the club’s fans on social media did find some positivity in attacker Podence, who impressed on his first start since his January arrival from Olympiacos.

Podence came into the XI to be a shining light in the Wolves defeat and has surely put his hand up for more opportunities moving forward.

The 24-year-old assisted both goals, with the second a great pass across the goal to an unmarked Doherty to tap into the net.

He is a dynamic Portuguese forward that is great with both feet and he looked positive with his direct dribbling against Espanyol.

Here are some Wolves fans hailing Podence:
