Ruben Neves helped Portugal to a win in the Nations League semi-finals on Wednesday night – and some of the Wolverhampton Wanderers fans on Twitter were blown by the performance of their player on the international stage.

Hosts Portugal booked their spot in Sunday’s final by overcoming Switzerland 3-1.

Cristiano Ronaldo opened the scoring in the first-half with a brilliant free-kick, but the Swiss drew level through a Ricardo Rodriguez penalty thanks to some help from VAR.

But attacker Ronaldo scored two more in the closing stages to complete his hat-trick and set up a final against either England or Holland.

There were a number of representatives from Wolves on show during the game, with goalkeeper Rui Patricio in net for Portugal.

But a selection of fans on social media picked out Neves for special praise, as he completed 90 minutes and looked clash in the centre of the park.

Wolves fans have become used to watching Neves in the deep-lying playmaker role at Molineux and he filled a similar void for Portugal.

The 22-year-old is a central midfielder with an excellent range of passing and he dictates possession so well.

His chipped through ball was crucial in the build up to Ronaldo’s second goal and he is certainly well on his way to becoming an elite player.
