Wolves fans critical of Ruben Vinagre display against Aston Villa

Wolverhampton Wanderers defender Ruben Vinagre completed 90 minutes in the defeat to Aston Villa on Wednesday night – and some of the club’s supporters on Twitter ripped into him for his performance.

Wolves were knocked out of the Carabao Cup after losing 2-1 to Villa, who will host Liverpool in the quarter-finals of the competition.

Anwar El Ghazi and Ahmed El Mohamady were on the scoresheet for the hosts, but striker Patrick Cutrone did manage to net a goal.

Manager Nuno Espirito Santo decided to make wholesale changes by fielding an inexperienced team, but it’s understandable given the pile up of fixtures in the league and also the Europa League this season.

The West Midlands club have had a hectic schedule and they gave most of their key players the night off at Villa.

A selection of Wolves supporters on social media picked out Vinagre for criticism for his contribution against Villa.

The 20-year-old had plenty of experience compared to some of his teammates, but delivered a below par performance and has plenty of his game to improve on.

He is a left wing-back that pushes forward well and attacks with great pace, but his final ball let him down at Villa Park.

His defensive side of his game has been an issue since his arrival at Molineux and that was highlighted once again when he was caught ball watching for El Ghazi’s opening goal.
