Wolves followed up arguably their best result of the season – the 3-1 Wembley win over Tottenham – with an abject 2-0 home defeat against struggling Crystal Palace last night.
That continued the trend of inconsistency that has characterised their return to the top flight; strong performances against the top six mixed in with ponderous displays and some poor results against those lower down.
Given the quality of Wolves’ squad and the scale of their investment in the past 18 months, it is perhaps easy to forget that they are a newly-promoted side who find themselves in the top half of the table over halfway through the season.
But despite their good achievements so far this campaign, there is some frustrating beginning to grow among some fans about the lack of consistency and repeated inability to overcome sides below them in the table.

Somewhat surprisingly, a fair amount of ire was directed towards manager Nuno Santo, who could do no wrong last season but is now coming under fire.
His insistence on playing 3-4-2-1 or a slight variation thereof, ponderous passing and deep defending have all aggravated a fanbase who want to see the huge highs backed up by strong performances on a consistent basis.
We’ve taken a look at some signs of frustration towards the Old Gold manager in the wake of his post-match comments…
