Forget Neves, 22-year-old has been star attraction at Wolves this season

Wolverhampton Wanderers have had a magnificent maiden season back in the Premier League. Nuno Espirito Santo has overseen a remarkable campaign that sees the club on the brink of European football.

Wolves romped to the Championship title last season and with money to spend pundits and experts alike did fancy their chances of a successful campaign.

Even the most ardent supporters of the club wouldn’t have expected such an emphatic rise up the table though and it’s an exciting time to follow Wolves.

Santo’s men beat Arsenal 3-1 at Molineux last night to go seventh in the Premier League. If this team can cut out losing to the lesser sides then there is every chance they can push on again next season, as their record against the bigger sides is good.

One man who has been a standout performer for Wolves this season is Diogo Jota. Whilst Joao Moutinho and Ruben Neves earn the plaudits, the ex-Atletico Madrid forward has quietly gone about his business.

The 22-year-old has nine goals and six assists to his name and he looks set for a very bright future at the football club. Jota signed permanently for Wolves during the summer, putting pen-to-paper on a contract worth £55k-a-week (Spotrac).

The versatile forward is improving with every single game he plays and looks like being the real deal. After cutting his teeth in the top flight this season, 2019/20 could be the campaign where he really kicks on and pushes Wolves even further up the Premier League.
