Wolves are benefiting from being patient with attacker Diogo Jota

Diogo Jota is now a man in the spotlight at Wolverhampton Wanderers, but earlier in the season it looked like the step up to the Premier League was going to be too much for him.

But manager Nuno Espirito Santo made the brave decision to stick by the 22-year-old and the team are now reaping the rewards.

The centre-forward scored last night in the 2-1 victory over Manchester United in the Premier League and was brilliant at Molineux.

He’s on top of his game ahead of the FA Cup semi-final with Watford and looks a serious threat going forward alongside teammate Raul Jimenez.

Wolves agreed a permanent deal of around £12million (Sky Sports) for Jota last summer after he previously impressed on loan and played a major role in promotion from the Championship.

But the Portugal international failed to score or assist in his opening 13 Premier League games and looked a fish out of water.

Jota has looked a different beast since he got off the mark against Chelsea in December and he’s now managed eight goals plus five assists in 30 games across all competitions this season.

The diminutive attacker is a quick dribbler that is a nightmare for defenders to deal with and has intelligent movement in the penalty area.

He so easily could have been chucked to the sidelines after rocky opening few months, but Nuno deserves credit for putting faith in him.
