Arsenal were dealt a further blow to their Champions League qualification hopes on Wednesday as they lost 3-1 to Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The Gunners were hoping to bounce back from Sunday’s disappointing 3-2 home defeat to Crystal Palace, but Unai Emery’s side put in a disastrous performance at Molineux.

Arsenal sit fifth in the table with just three games left to play, and may well now have to win the Europa League to secure qualification for next year’s Champions League.

There were poor individual performances throughout the team for Arsenal, with Henrikh Mkhitaryan once again failing to produce the goods.

The Armenian struggled to be productive with the ball and many criticised his performance on social media.

TBR’s view

By contrast, Wolves attacker Diogo Jota ran the show at Molineux.

The tenacious Portuguese forward is in fantastic form, with his latest strike taking him to five in his last five. He has also laid on two assists in those games.

Against the Gunners he was a real menace. Arguably, he is the kind of player the struggling Mkhitaryan should be for the money he takes home per week (£180,000 according to Spotrac).

Jota is industrious, but has real quality when on the ball. Mkhitaryan has shown himself to feeble and inconsistent in Arsenal colours.

The 22-year-old put the former Manchester United ace to shame with his performance, and there were a number of Arsenal fans left feeling rather jealous once the final whistle had blown.
