Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher believes the club have a player who has earned the right to join him as a club legend.

Jamie Carragher says Virgil van Dijk is one of the greatest players to ever play for Liverpool
Speaking on CBS Sports, Jamie Carragher waxed lyrical about Van Dijk and his place among the true greats to ever play for Liverpool.
“At Liverpool, a lot of people get called legends because they’ve won the league or Champions League,” Carragher began.
“But if you want to differentiate between the giants of the club like Stevie [Gerrard], Kenny Dalglish, [Graeme] Souness, Alan Hansen, John Barnes, Mo Salah – the top seven or eight players. He is right in the middle of that and he’s not at the bottom of the list.
“He will go down as one of the greatest players to ever play for Liverpool. Not one of the greatest centre-backs, one of the greatest players.”
Virgil van Dijk explains why Liverpool are scoring so many late goals this season
With five wins from five this season all secured with late goals – between the 83rd and 100th minutes – Liverpool have been praised for their resilience and spirit as their new signings adapt to Arne Slot’s system.

Reviewing the game on TNT Sports, Van Dijk said: “We found a way again and I think we were dangerous in set-pieces. They were pretty aggressive, I must say. But I’m glad I got the winner.
“You have to keep going and show the resilience that we have been showing throughout many years. It was another great European night here at Anfield.
“I think we’ve shown many times that we are capable of doing it. Today I was the lucky one with the winner. We move on.”
