With Everton not close to buying a new striker, Silva should try Walcott up front

Everton manager Marco Silva has stated that the club will need to sell players before he can make any January arrivals, according to the Daily Mail.

The Toffees have spent big in the last three transfer windows but despite their need for a prolific striker this month, Silva has effectively ruled out an expensive swoop.

He said: “It is not my job to change my mind. When you asked me the last few weeks the possible players coming or not in the market, I told you that you just can’t sign someone if someone leaves the club or we sell someone.

“We don’t have the financial conditions to go in the market, (that) is the feedback I have at the moment. I have to find different solutions.”

If Silva feels he needs to get creative to solve his striking issues, one potential solution could be to move Theo Walcott up front.

The former Arsenal man has always maintained that he is a striker and his form out wide this season has not been the best, so a change of position could shake some better performances out of him.

It would also allow Richarlison to remain in his best position – out wide on the left – and give Ademola Lookman a well-deserved run of games out on the right.

Walcott’s pace would stretch teams and he has looked an accomplished finisher at times during his career. It’s not a perfect solution, but if Silva wants to get creative, it’s worth a try.
