With Diogo Jota ruled out against Liverpool, it’s a big chance for Ivan Cavaleiro

Wolverhampton Wanderers attacker Diogo Jota will miss the club’s Friday night clash with Liverpool, as confirmed by Nuno Espirito Santo.

The star had to come off during last weekend’s 2-0 win over Bournemouth due to what looked liked a hamstring problem.

The severity of the injury is not yet known, but the game with the Reds comes too soon for the Portuguese.

It’s a big blow for Wolves, with Jota having come into his best form of late.

Jota has scored in each of his last two Premier League outings and has looked increasingly lively for Wolves, who have won their last three league matches after a winless run that lasted seven games.

A chance for Cavaleiro

Jota’s injury could open the door again for Ivan Cavaleiro to stake his claim under Espirito Santo.

The 2016 signing from AS Monaco has had to make do with a bit-part role this season; he’s made just three Premier League starts and 11 appearances in total this term.

He has managed to score three goals, but the form of Jota, Raul Jimenez and Helder Costa has kept him rooted to the bench for the most part.

It’s likely he’ll get the nod to replace Jota against Liverpool and he must take his chance if he wants an extended run in the team – especially with Morgan Gibbs-White now on the scene.

It’s the kind of game that could kick-start his season, but with Jurgen Klopp’s side in such great form it will be difficult.
