Tottenham Hotspur reached the semi-final of the Champions League last night with an away goals victory over Manchester City. An incredible contest finished 4-4 on aggregate with Spurs edging through on away goals.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side were beaten 4-3 at the Etihad last night but essentially Fernando Llorente’s goal proved crucial for Spurs.
It was a great win for the Londoners and sets up a mouthwatering last-four match against Ajax. The Dutch side have so far beaten Real Madrid and Juventus to get to this stage.
One man who really shone for Spurs last night was Christian Eriksen. He did give the ball away in the build-up to City’s disallowed goal, but other than that his world-class quality was evident.
The Express has previously said that a £95 million move to Real Madrid is on the cards for the summer.
Eriksen is in fine form this season for Spurs. He has netted eight goals and contributed 17 assists in 43 games for Pochettino’s side.
Spurs have just moved into a new state-of-the-art stadium and they would dearly like to keep their star players. Eriksen being one of them.
The lure of La Liga and Real Madrid can sometimes make it impossible for a player to turn their back on. If Spurs can land the Champions League crown, however, it could make Eriksen think twice.
At Spurs he is one of the main men, whereas at Madrid he would become just another enormous star, fighting for places among a competitive squad.
At Tottenham, he has the back of Pochettino and if Spurs can prove that they are serious about competing for major silverware, that could help them keep hold of Eriksen for the foreseeable.
