Jacob Murphy has struggled on loan at West Bromwich Albion during the second half of the season and his latest Instagram message suggests he is set to return to Newcastle.
The 24-year-old was signed by Rafa Benitez in the summer of the 2017-18 campaign, for a fee believed to be in the region of £12million after a stunning 2016-17 campaign with Norwich City.
But he has since made just 21 started in all competitions for Newcastle since that move, and was loaned to West Brom in January after Newcastle had signed Miguel Almiron from MLS outfit Atlanta United.
Murphy has only managed two goals in 15 appearances for the Baggies and he was unable to prevent Aston Villa progressing to the play-off final on Tuesday night. He posted a heartfelt message to West Brom fans on Instagram.
The message wished West Brom “all the very best in the future”, suggesting that he would be parting company rather than signing a permanent deal – meaning he will rejoin Newcastle.
Murphy has little to no future at St. James’ Park. In 41 appearances for Newcastle, he has managed just one goal and he simply is not good enough for the Premier League – not yet, anyway.
Though he looks as though he is set to return to Tyneside ahead of the summer transfer window, the likelihood is that Newcastle will try to sell the winger. But it will be difficult to recoup the £12million fee they paid for him.
He does have a contract at Newcastle until the summer of 2021, but the chances are he may go out on loan again.
