Spurs fans have been left bemused as yet another player linked with Tottenham has signed a new contract.

A week ago, The Telegraph claimed that Spurs were preparing a move for James Ward-Prowse.

Mauricio Pochettino reportedly wanted the Southampton captain during his time at Tottenham.

And it looked as though Spurs duo Nuno Espirito Santo and Fabio Paratici were going down that road too.

However, Ward-Prowse has now ended speculation over his future by penning a new long-term contract at Southampton.

After penning his new deal, the England international referenced interest in him from other clubs.

“It’s probably the first time in my career that I’ve had that link away and that talk,” he said.

“But I think I was very keen to sit down and talk to the club and it’s worked both ways.

“They’ve sat down and told me their admiration for me and the way they want me to lead the team.

“And this club has done so much for me, I can’t put into the words the opportunities and chances that they’ve given me.

“I’m incredibly grateful for the club for doing that.”

While it’s good news for Saints fans, it’s an increasingly familiar scene for Spurs supporters.

Ward-Prowse isn’t the only player this summer that has signed a new contract following links with Tottenham.
