International performance shows that Wilson could have Liverpool future

Harry Wilson was the matchwinner for Wales on Tuesday night as they overcame the Republic of Ireland in the UEFA Nations League. Ryan Giggs opted to place faith in the youth and it paid dividends for the away side.

Although he is currently on loan at Derby County, Wilson will have ambitions of breaking into the first team at parent club Liverpool. His development during the course of 2018 has made that much more likely for him.

Against Ireland, he was one of the best players on the pitch and showed his worth in all areas of his game. He scored the winning goal with a wonderfully-struck free-kick.

Further to this, he worked hard when he didn’t have possession and made two tackles. This bodes well for his chances of earning a chance at Liverpool as Jurgen Klopp demands all of his players contribute to the defensive effort.

There is something special about Wilson and that was obvious on Tuesday night. He stepped up in the absence of Gareth Bale and became the leader of the Wales attack.

His performance showed maturity and highlighted his raw talent. It will be difficult for him to breakthrough at Liverpool, but it is too soon to write him off.
