Wilshere says fans don't realise how incredible Arsenal player is

Jack Wilshere has told The Sun that it is incredible how Bukayo Saka always appears to make the right decision, and claimed that he is not sure that England fans understand how special the Arsenal starlet is.

Saka will reportedly start the Three Lions’ opening game of the World Cup on Monday. The Daily Mail has reported that the Gunners forward will get the nod ahead of Phil Foden against Iran.

It is a big show of faith from Gareth Southgate. But Saka has absolutely earned the chance to start and hold down a place during the tournament.

Bukayo Saka is incredible

The 21-year-old has been absolutely outstanding for Arsenal in the Premier League. No player in Mikel Arteta’s side has been directly involved in more goals so far.

Wilshere will not be surprised to see Saka in the side. And he had a message for anyone who is tempted to question the Arsenal man’s selection.

“I wonder if the England fans realise what a truly great player we have in Bukayo Saka,” he told The Sun. “Yes, I know I’ll be accused of bias because Bukayo plays for Arsenal but, honestly, he has special gifts.

“What amazes me about him is he always makes the right decision, it’s incredible.

“It is so rare for a young player – he’s only just turned 21 – to instinctively know what is right in any given situation. I stress with my Arsenal Under-18 players to study him.”

In fairness, it is probably not Saka’s place in the side which many are questioning. He has been brilliant for the Gunners for a number of years. And it must not be forgotten how he fought his way into the England side after not featuring in the first two games at Euro 2020.

Instead, it is surely Raheem Sterling who is perhaps fortunate to start ahead of Foden. Sterling has not had the easiest time since moving to Chelsea. And Foden has been electric at times this season.

But the tournament is a long one. England will be setting their sights on playing seven games over the next few weeks. And with that, changes will be made.

Sterling has been excellent in an England shirt over the years. But the pressure is definitely on both him and Saka with Foden now waiting in the wings.
