Willian has told FourFourTwo that he is incredibly confident that Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is destined to be one of the best managers in the world in the coming years.

Arteta has made an encouraging start to life at the Emirates. Admittedly, he has a point to prove following the international break. But the Gunners are moving in the right direction.

Arsenal have already won the FA Cup under Arteta. And the club have made further statements, such as tying Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang down to a fresh contract, during his time in charge.

Willian was one of the players convinced to join the Gunners following Arteta’s appointment. And the Brazilian insisted that he can see the Spaniard going right to the top.

“He’ll be a top manager, I’ve no doubt about it,” he told FourFourTwo.

“The potential is there, as is the ambition. In a few years he’ll be considered one of the best managers in the Premier League – and the world.

“Obviously you must win trophies to be considered one of the best, and it will happen for him sooner rather than later. I’m impressed with the way he talks and explains his tactical thoughts – he’s quick to read the game and make adjustments when needed.”

As mentioned, Arteta needs his side to make a statement after the international break.

He has, rightly, received a lot of credit for the work he has done. But he has come in for criticism following the Gunners’ defeat to Aston Villa before the international break.

In fairness to Arteta, he needs to be given opportunities to make mistakes. And he does not come across as the kind of manager that will make the same error over and over again.

He does need to prove himself. But it would appear that his squad are more than confident that he will silence any doubters in the future.
