Report: Four Arsenal players took 'unbelievable' player under their wing...but only one remains in Arteta's squad

Arsenal kickoff the Premier League season tonight with a tough clash against Crystal Palace this evening, with Mikel Arteta looking to get the perfect start.

The Gunners boss has a number of new players to include in his new squad this evening. Arsenal have once again spent over £100m this summer, with new faces such as Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko added to the squad.

However, the other new face at the club isn’t necessarily a new signing. Defender William Saliba is set to make a big impression this season after returning from a superb spell in Marseille. Of course, Saliba’s time with Arsenal hasn’t taken off at all, and he’s played more times for France than he has for the Gunners.

And according to The Telegraph, Saliba’s progress at the club might have initially been hindered due to the company he kept. The Telegraph reports that Saliba had initially been taken under the wing of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Alex Lacazette, Nicolas Pepe, and Matteo Guendouzi.

Of course, those players – barring Pepe – have all been shifted on by Mikel Arteta. And in a nutshell, there was a big reason why the Spanish coach did indeed move those players on. Guendouzi had more than one run-in with Arteta, while Aubameyang was ousted by the Arsenal coach and stripped of the captaincy.

Nicolas Pepe isn’t exactly flavour of the month, although there can be more kind words for Lacazette, who was a well-respected member of the Arsenal squad before leaving.

This is a new Arsenal squad now and the likes of Aaron Ramsdale and others are big characters. Mikel Arteta has moved the players on he doesn’t want or need around the squad, and Saliba now has a chance to make new and improve acquaintances.

William Saliba has a big season ahead of him. And after been labelled ‘unbelievable‘ by Sol Campbell, there is a big chance for the Frenchman to leave a huge impression proceedings in north London.
