Arsenal have more bad news coming their way on the injury front.
Mikel Arteta has not had a fully fit squad available at his disposal for any game this season. At least one Arsenal player has been out injured at every point this campaign.
The Gunners lost Gabriel Jesus to a season-ending injury in January, while Kai Havertz’s campaign is over too after the German suffered a hamstring issue that required surgery.
Now, another Arsenal player is set to miss the remainder of the season – Takehiro Tomiyasu.
William Saliba sends message after Arsenal star Takehiro Tomiyasu confirms knee surgery
Tomiyasu has had a really difficult season at Arsenal.
The Japan international was ruled out of pre-season last year due to an injury and that kept him out of action until October.
Tomiyasu returned as a substitute against Southampton in the Premier League in the final moments of the game.
Sadly, the versatile defender suffered another injury that has sidelined him since.
After struggling to overcome that issue over the last few months, it was decided that Tomiyasu will undergo surgery on his knee.
The 26-year-old confirmed that on his Instagram on Tuesday night, writing: “I’ve had surgery on my knee a few days ago and I’ve already started my rehab to do what I love the most again.
“It has been the toughest period in my career for sure and it carries on a bit more but I won’t give up. Thank you for your support and see you again.”
Under his post, William Saliba commented “Next season bro,” along with a couple of emojis, while Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Magalhaes also showed him some love.

Tomiyasu faces extended spell on the sidelines
Tomiyasu’s setback is terrible news for everyone associated with Arsenal.
The Japanese defender is a very useful member of the squad thanks to his versatility, but more than that, it must be hard to see him go through such a difficult spell off the pitch.
As we said above, Tomiyasu’s 2024/25 season is now over following his surgery, but Sami Mokbel has revealed on X that the Arsenal man could miss the start of the next campaign as well.
That is a real shame, but luckily for Arsenal, they are well covered in defence now and will be able to cope without Tomiyasu until then.
Arteta will be hoping that this will be the last injury Tomiyasu will have to go through because he can be a really important player for Arsenal in various positions when he is fit.
