Sunderland are one of three teams interested in the signature of Will Vaulks from Cardiff City. The Daily Mail reports that Bristol City and Stoke City are also keen on the player, who is currently struggling for regular first-team football in the Welsh capital. The 26-year-old only joined the Bluebirds in the summer for a deal reported by the Rotherham Advertiser to be worth around £3.5 million. However, he has played just nine times in the Championship this season.
For Sunderland, it would be a brilliant piece of business to bring Vaulks to the club.
The Welsh international has previous in League One, enjoying a very successful period with Rotherham United back in the 2017-18 campaign. Vaulks played 47 games, including the play-offs, that campaign, scoring five goals and providing five assists.
He was one of the stars of that Millers side, who won promotion to the Championship at Wembley.
Capable of playing in central midfield or at right wing-back, he would fit in perfectly with the current Sunderland formation, playing in either role.
His history of winning promotion from this division will also be hugely beneficial, should Sunderland manage to get a deal done.
It will be difficult, with Championship sides rivaling them for his services, but Vaulks could be a difference-maker in Sunderland’s hopes for promotion this season.
