Will Steve Bruce hand reprieves to forgotten Newcastle duo Rolando Aarons and Achraf Lazaar?

Newcastle United’s new manager Steve Bruce will be eager to get started. He needs to run the rule over his squad and make some important decisions with less than a month to go until the season starts.

Several outcasts will be waiting to hear if they have a future at St James’ Park. And, ironically, this includes two players who were signed by Bruce in the last transfer window.

In January, when he was at Sheffield Wednesday, Bruce snapped up Rolando Aarons and Achraf Lazaar. Both players were out in the cold at Newcastle and they were sent to the Championship on loan.

Morocco left-back Lazaar impressed Owls fans despite hardly featuring. Injury limited the 27-year-old to just four displays but he caught the eye and Bruce was a big fan.

Aarons enjoyed a successful spell at Hillsborough. The 23-year-old chipped in with a goal and an assist in his 10 outings but stirred up excitement with some impressive displays on the wing.

Newcastle could be searching for a new left-back and they are also looking for creativity on the wings. If Bruce feels Aarons and Lazaar are good enough, there are spaces in the squad.

But it would be a jump up from the Championship and there are other options out there. However, given that Aarons and Lazaar were staring at a bleak future on Tyneside, this could be the lifeline that both of them need to kickstart their Newcastle careers.
