Newcastle United travel to Southampton on Saturday in the Premier League and it’s surely entering must-win territory for manager Rafael Benitez.
The Magpies are without a victory in their opening nine league games and sit bottom of the table on just two points.
They have scored just six goals in that time as their problems in the final third continue, but may have just been handed some good news ahead of the Southampton clash.
Newcastle have confirmed that centre-forward Salomon Rondon participated in training on Wednesday.
The striker has been sidelined with a thigh injury since the draw against Crystal Palace in September and watched his team lose three consecutive matches.
It’s unclear on if the 29-year-old will be available for action against Southampton, but it’s certainly a good sign he’s back in training and manager Benitez wold surely love to have him available for selection.
Rondon is a powerhouse striker that can provide a focal point and it may be worth deploying him alongside the lively Yoshinori Muto.
Rondon still managed 10 goals across all competitions last season for West Brom and Newcastle need him to fire for them as soon as possible.
