'Will play': Jesse Marsch plans to start 'criminally underrated' Leeds player at Arsenal tomorrow

Leeds United boss Jesse Marsch has told Leeds Live that Liam Cooper is likely to feature against Arsenal on Sunday.

The Whites captain had recently come back from a long-standing hamstring issue.

Cooper’s return to the Leeds line-up led to an improved run of results.

However, the 30-year-old missed the 4-0 defeat to Manchester City at Elland Road last time out.

Cooper limped out of the warm-up ahead of the match due to a ‘weird sensation’ in his knee.

However, Marsch seemed optimistic that the Scotland international hadn’t experienced a major problem.

This seems to be the case, with the Leeds boss now suggesting Cooper is fine to play against the Gunners.

“I think actually think Liam will play,” said Marsch. “He was fully in training today and felt good. So I think he’ll be available.”

When it came to the nature of Cooper’s issue, Marsch said: “They call it the ‘fat pad’, which I don’t know what that means.

“It’s not a muscle, it’s something in his knee that is like a lubricant, but he’s feeling good.”

Leeds desperately need points against Arsenal as they battle to stay in the Premier League.

The Whites sit just two points clear of the drop zone with Everton, in 18th, having a game in hand.

To make things worse for Leeds, Burnley have hit form, claiming four wins in the last few weeks.

Cooper’s expected return to action is a huge boost for Marsch and his team.

The defender is a “criminally underrated” and “incredible” player, as some Leeds fans have said this season.

Arsenal away is a tough proposition, but with Cooper in their ranks, the outlook is more positive.
