3) N’Golo Kanté

The rest from here on in are hard to decide between.  The trio of Foxes and Spurs’ front-man are left and all have a case to take the star award of the campaign.  At £5.6 million, he’s unquestionably a prime candidate for signing of the season and has transformed into a dynamic, ferocious and tireless midfielder.  The Frenchman has been a key part of Leicester’s heroic title charge as Kanté had established himself as one of the best ball winning midfielders in Europe.

Kanté has earned a call-up to the French side recently as well and with the Euros in the summer in his home nation, this could be a memorable year for Kanté.  Nemanja Matic was the idolised holding midfielder when Chelsea breezed to the league crown, now Kanté holds the thrown.  He could easily go and win Player of the Year as his impact and surprise show of quality and consistency has been that good, but I think his team-mates may just edge him out.

4) Harry Kane

Kane has reaffirmed his position as England’s best forward and is leading Spurs’ bid for Champions League football for the first time since 2010.  He has surpassed his tally of last season with 22 league goals, leading the way with the Golden Boot and now up in the contest for Player of the Year.  Many asked if he was just a ‘One Season Wonder’, but Kane silenced that ending his early season drought in a 4-1 battering of Manchester City.

Kane’s development has been startling and he is now one of the best strikers in England and a hot prospect in European football.  This summer’s Euros will be Kane’s first stab at a major tournament for England and is the platform to put his name on the highest level in the continent.  Inspiring his club to Champions League football is what Spurs needed as this summer may have seen Kane leave if Spurs couldn’t give him that level of competition to prove himself.

He is the first Spurs player in 44 years to score 20 goals in back to back league campaigns. At 22 years of age, he already has 50 goals for Spurs and is showing further signs of being one of the best predators England have produced, just look at his composure and quality in his goals at Liverpool, Arsenal and for England in Germany. But a pair of Fantastic Foxes have the better of him this time, in my view at least.
