Will Milan Skriniar prove to be the one that got away for Tottenham? - TBR View
Tottenham enjoyed quite the transfer window this summer as Daniel Levy backed Jose Mourinho in the market with some fine signings.
The marquee return of Gareth Bale headlined proceedings. But the likes of Matt Doherty, Sergio Reguilon, Pierre Hojbjerg, and Carlos Vinicius should all prove fine additions to the Spurs ranks.

It goes without saying, then, that things are looking up for Tottenham and their fine start to the campaign should stand them in good stead for the coming year.
However, the one area Jose Mourinho failed to add to before the deadline was at centre-back. A number of players were linked, with Antonio Rudiger and Milan Skriniar the two big names to catch the eye.
So with such a good start in the bank, could Spurs’ failure to complete a deal for Skriniar in particular come back to bite them?
Final piece of the jigsaw
Davinson Sanchez and and Eric Dier have been doing pretty well this season. And with Toby Alderweireld and Japhet Tanganga in reserve, Spurs shouldn’t – in theory – have too many worries.
However, when you look at Skriniar, you look at a player who is at the top of his game. That’s why Inter Milan were demanding a reported £55m for their man. Clearly, that is a huge fee and after spending so much already, was enough to put Levy and co off.

But if Spurs are to really challenge for the title and top four, it might have been a price worth paying. All the best clubs over the years have had world-class players in defence to be successful. Arsenal had Adams, Campbell, etc. Man United had Ferdinand, Vidic. Even Chelsea, built themselves around the likes of John Terry and Ricardo Carvalho originally.
Mourinho knows how key a top and rock solid defence is. Skriniar would have ensured that for Spurs.
Hopefully, Tottenham will continue to improve throughout the season but should they dip away and injuries potentially strike at the back, question marks may be raised over the decision not to land Skriniar.
