Tottenham host Manchester City on Monday night in the Premier League and it’s a huge opportunity for either side to lay down a huge marker in the title race.
Spurs will be fully aware of the size of the task in their way, as they welcome the reigning champions to temporary home Wembley.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side will need to be on their A-game defensively to try contain Manchester City, who now have a chief Spurs tormentor in their ranks.
Riyad Mahrez completed his move to the Etihad Stadium in the summer for £60million (BBC) and has in recent years been a thorn in Spurs’ side.
The 27-year-old played a starring role for Leicester City when they beat the North London club to the Premier League title in the 2015/16 season, as he was named PFA Player of the Year for his sparkling displays.
He also has a decent individual record when playing against Spurs and should be confident going into Monday’s clash of delivering the goods once again.
The skilful right-winger managed two goals and two assists in his two league matches for Leicester last season against Pochettino’s team.
Mahrez is beginning to cement his spot in Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City side now and has four goals in all competitions so far.
Spurs know only too well what a menace dazzling attacker Mahrez can be on his day and it could fall on left-back Ben Davies to try limit his influence.
