Will Luis Suarez stay at Liverpool this Summer?
Liverpool striker Luis Suarez has recently raised doubts about his future at Anfield. The Uruguayan has admitted he will wait until the summer to decide his future, after hinting he may look to move on if the club fails to qualify for next season’s Champions League.
Suarez said: “We will see at the end of the season what Liverpool’s position is – we’re not the Liverpool of old. We’re coming out of a rough patch, but this is a transition period with a new gaffer and a different philosophy.”
“The players enjoy how the manager wants us to play. All we need are the results and to finish in the Champions League spots.”
“We would like to qualify for the Champions League if possible. We are young and growing as a team and when the players mature, we will be stronger.”
The 26-year-old is on the radar of Spanish giants Real Madrid and Italians Juventus, with both clubs looking to make a move for the player come the end of the season. Bayern Munich, under new manager Pep Guardiola, are also reportedly interested.
But Suarez has also stated that hearing the Liverpool fans sing ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ makes him want to stay at Anfield for years to come. For now, the Uruguay international insists he and his family are happy on Merseyside.
The arrival of Daniel Sturridge and Philippe Coutinho this January already looks to have improved the side. With a few clever additions this summer, Rodgers could see his side regain their status as one of the league’s top teams.
Reports today from various sources, including the Guardian, suggest that Suarez is ready to sign a new deal at Anfield. He insists Liverpool can still qualify for next season’s Champions League and is keen to talk about a contract extension with the club either this summer or the next.
Will Suarez stay at Liverpool? I think so. However, it is going to be a tough task for Brendan Rodger’s side to qualify for the Champions League this season, especially considering the quality of sides sitting at the top of the table. The Reds currently occupy 7th in the Premier League table; however they lie 9 points behind fourth place Tottenham.
Despite this, Suarez can no doubt see the potential in the present Liverpool squad and if he truly is enjoying life at Anfield, then surely he’ll stick around to see how things develop. If the Reds can achieve a Europa league finish this campaign and attract a couple of big name players in July, then I am confident he will remain at the club.
