Will Lewis Morgan get more Celtic opportunities after praise from Brendan Rodgers?

Celtic attacker Lewis Morgan has been a fringe player so far this season, but he got his first start for the club on Thursday night in the Europa League.

The Bhoys slipped to a 2-0 defeat away to German opposition RB Leipzig, which means they have plenty of work to do if they are to qualify from their European group.

Manager Brendan Rodgers went into the contest without a number of key players due to injuries and James Forrest was also suspended.

That opened the door for Morgan to start the match and he got the nod in the team over the experienced Scott Sinclair.

Rodgers had some kind words for the 22-year-old after his first start for Celtic despite ending up on the losing side.

“The players that came in tonight did fantastic. They haven’t been playing a great deal,” Rodgers said, as quoted by the Scottish Sun.

Morgan earned praise from his manager after his outing, but will it lead to more chances in the future?

The skilful wide man is certainly still adjusting to life in the top flight and is yet to replicate the kind of form that saw him terrorise defences with St Mirren last season.

He has great competition for a starting role and it may still take him a while to break into the team, as he could do with improving his strength and decision making.

But Thursday night was a huge step forwards for Morgan after Rodgers showed faith in him to start and he clearly has the backing of the manager.
