Will Jack Ross consider Elliot Embleton in January after impressing at Grimsby?

Elliot Embleton has been impressing on loan at Grimsby Town and he will hope that this has caught the attention of Sunderland manager Jack Ross.

Sunderland academy product Embleton is highly rated as one for the future and many thought that this would be the year that he pushes on in the first-team.

Prior to this season, the teenager had featured in three games for Sunderland’s senior side.

And following their relegation to League One, many believed he would be the next youngster to step up after the rise of Lynden Gooch and George Honeyman.

But after running the rule over Embleton in a 60-minute cameo in the EFL Cup, Ross decided he should head out on loan.

The 19-year-old subsequently joined Grimsby, who play their football in League Two.

So far, Embleton has played nine times for the Mariners and he is a key component of their midfield.

He had scored one goal, until grabbing his second in spectacular fashion yesterday.

With Grimsby trailing against MK Dons, Embleton scored with a wonder strike that is bound to have turned Ross’ head.

The England under-20 international is only out on loan until January. Could he stake a claim for the first-team when he returns?
