Will interest from Juventus, Barcelona and PSG tempt Liverpool’s Adam Lallana into a move?

Liverpool and England midfielder Adam Lallana is catching the eye of Paris St Germain, Juventus and Barcelona ahead of a potential summer move away from Anfield, according to The Times today.

Lallana, who has two years left on his contract under Jurgen Klopp, could be the subject of a huge move at the end of the season if an agreement isn’t made on a new deal.

The 28-year-old has been in sensational form for Liverpool this season, playing a pivotal attacking role as the Reds sit five points behind Chelsea in second place in the Premier League.

Barcelona are reportedly expressing interest in Lallana as an alternative to Philippe Coutinho, who would prove to be a more costly acquisition for the Spanish giants.

What would Lallana bring to a European giant?

Lallana’s game has grown phenomenally over the past two years, so much so that he’s generally been the best English player in the Premier league for a while now.

This season the 28-year-old has been playing out of his skin for Klopp’s side, being involved in 14 goals and creating an average of at least 1.5 key chances per match for a free-scoring Liverpool side.

Since his £25 million move from Southampton back in 2014, Lallana has possessed all of the skills and trickery in the build-up to goals to compete with the best, also finding himself in promising positions in front of goal, but his ability to find the back of the net has left a lot to be desired.

This season it’s been a completely different story though, with Lallana scoring seven goals in his 18 appearances to be Liverpool’s second top goal-scorer in the Premier League; compare this to last season, where he only managed four goals from his 30 league appearances, and it’s clear to see where the Liverpool man has vastly improved over the last six months.

These goals have come from just ten shots on target this season too, showing how he worked on his clinical finishing in training over the pre-season.

Aside from his evident attacking impetus at Liverpool, the England midfielder has shown over the Christmas period how hard he works at being involved in everything that goes through the middle of the park – despite having to play twice in 48 hours over the festive period he ran further in both of those games than any other player managed across the whole of the New Year fixture list, covering 12.88km in the win over Manchester City before completing 13.22km against Sunderland.

Is a move away from Anfield likely?

It’s believed that a decision to move away from Anfield, and not sign a new deal at the club, would hang on whether Liverpool achieve Champions League football next season or not.

This is the big point in Lallana’s decision, as he knows that playing at the highest level would be guaranteed with a move to either PSG, Barcelona or Juventus.

However Lallana’s relationship with Jurgen Klopp has blossomed hugely since the German’s arrival from Borussia Dortmund, and it would be hard to see Lallana turning his back on an ever-improving Liverpool side who aren’t far off of challenging regularly for the Premier League title.

Verdict

5/10 – When clubs of the stature of those linked with Lallana express interest, it’s always going to be hard to completely ignore them – after all, they are the best teams in Europe at the moment. Yet with Liverpool well on their way to securing their Champions League spot for next season, and Lallana vastly improving as a key-player under Klopp, it’s hard to see him sacrificing this for a role at another club abroad where he might not necessarily get as much game time as at Anfield.
