Will Glenn Middleton shine for Rangers v Villarreal?

Rangers host Spanish outfit Villarreal on Thursday night in a Europa League group stage match and it may be the most important fixture of Glenn Middleton’s Ibrox career so far.

Steven Gerrard’s side are involved in a fascinating group where the four teams are separated by just two points and a win in the penultimate game will go a long way to securing qualification.

But on the flip side Steven Gerrard’s side could go crashing out of Europe if results go against them.

It would be a huge statement of progress if the Light Blues were competing in the Europa League still in the New Year and the knockouts rounds are in their sights.

Rangers may need to beat Villarreal at Ibrox to do that and are going to require their attackers to be on top form.

Middleton is a rising talent in incredible touch right now and it will be intriguing to see if he can rise to the occasion.

The 18-year-old winger has managed to earn a full senior role this campaign with the Scottish giants and is a product of the club’s academy.

He’s scored once and assisted twice in the last two league matches, where Gerrard has had the confidence to start the teenager.

Middleton may well be in line for another start for a mammoth European night and he’s shone he will be fearless on the ball, with his directness and quick dribbling making him such an attacking threat.
