Liverpool star Sadio Mane has been praised by Southampton ace Moussa Djenepo, who hopes he can overtake the Reds and Senegal talisman during his career (talkSPORT).
Mane has enjoyed another superb season at Liverpool, playing a crucial role as the Reds surged 25 points clear at the top of the Premier League table and on the brink of a first title since 1990.
He has claimed an impressive 18 goals and 12 assists in 38 appearances in all competitions this term, while his overall tally for Liverpool stands at 77 goals and 34 assists from 161 appearances.
Mali international Djenepo is in his first season in the Premier League, having joined Southampton in a £14million move from Standard Liege, and has shown a lot of promise so far.
“Sadio is a big inspiration for me. I like him, he’s a very big player,” the 21-year-old told talkSPORT. “But I think I can be better [than him] if I work hard.
“Sadio is a very big player, and I’m young and I need to learn more. In the future we will see. I will do my best to become the next Sadio Mane.”
Getting used to the Premier League is never easy but Djenepo has done well so far and, with his Southampton contract taking him to 2023, he’s got plenty of time to develop further under Ralph Hasenhuttl.
Mane was impressive in his two-year spell at St Mary’s, prompting Liverpool to spend £34million on him – money very well spent, considering the success he’s contributed to at Anfield.
Djenepo’s ambition and drive has taken him to the Premier League aged 21, and with his attitude, character and talent, he looks very much destined for the top, much like Mane.
