The Daily Mail report that Chelsea, Liverpool, Everton and Bournemouth are preparing to do battle over Genk winger Leon Bailey. The Jamaican is also attracting interest from Roma, Bayer Leverkusen, Lyon and Nice as he continues to impress with eight goals already this season from the left and right flank. The Belgian club value him at around £20 million but do not want to sell until the end of the season, with only Chelsea and Liverpool reportedly considering a January bid, but is a move to England likely for the 19-year-old?

What would he bring to the Premier League?

The winger is known for his tricks and skills down both flanks as well as his pace and dribbles which have caused mayhem for Jupiter League defenders for the last two seasons. Bailey loves to beat his man and then cut inside, sometimes setting up others and taking chances himself on other occasions, and would be well suited to the Premier League in that regard. Whilst he is still a very raw talent, with the right coaching and development he could become a star.

Is a move likely?

Given his superb performances, with four goals in six games despite still being a teenager, it’s likely that Bailey will feel that the time is right for him to step his career up to the next level with the challenge of moving to one of Europe’s top leagues. With a host of clubs monitoring him, a move is very likely but it may not be to the Premier League. Money may count in persuading him, but the quality coaching on offer from the likes of Antonio Conte, Jurgen Klopp, Ronald Koeman and even Eddie Howe, could be decisive.

Verdict

9/10 – A Premier League move looks highly likely for the youngster, the only question will be when and where to. He would seemingly fit in at any of these clubs, but is not expected to leave Genk until the summer. Given his current form, he could be a top addition and these four may face competition in the battle to sign him.
