‘Will be the same again’: Chris Sutton now predicts result of Arsenal vs Newcastle United clash

Chris Sutton has now given BBC Sport his prediction for the clash between Arsenal and Newcastle United tomorrow night.

Both sides have been in brilliant form, with Mikel Arteta’s men extending their lead to seven points at the top of the table while Eddie Howe’s side sit in third.

Arsenal picked up an impressive win on the south coast on Saturday as they beat Brighton 4-2. The Gunners look head and shoulders above the rest at the moment but they will be wary of a dangerous Newcastle side.

The Magpies haven’t lost a league game since the 2-1 defeat at Anfield back in August but will be disappointed to have dropped two points against Leeds on Saturday.

And Sutton is predicting Arteta’s side to continue their impressive form with a narrow win over Newcastle at the Emirates Stadium tomorrow night.

Sutton predicts Arsenal vs Newcastle result

Sutton has predicted that Arsenal will run out 2-1 winners against a well-drilled Newcastle side.

The former Chelsea forward feels the next month will be absolutely pivotal in terms of Arsenal’s title hopes, with fixtures against Tottenham and Manchester United ahead.

“I was wrong about both of these teams last time out – Newcastle were unlucky not to beat Leeds, but I was miles out when I said Arsenal would lose to Brighton, although the Gunners had to weather a storm at the end of the game,” he told the BBC.

“Arsenal are seven points clear at the top of the table now, and they are coping with every problem that gets thrown at them.

“It will be the same again here. Newcastle are well organised defensively, but Mikel Arteta’s side are so impressive going forward. Arsenal’s other two league games in January are against Tottenham (away) and Manchester United (home).

“At the end of this month, we will have a much better idea about whether they can go the distance in the title race, but at the moment they look like they mean business.”

TBR prediction: Arsenal to be held to a draw

This is a massive game for both sides and Newcastle will be desperate to get back to winning ways in north London.

Howe’s side have already picked up a big win in London as they beat Arsenal’s bitter rivals Spurs 2-1.

The Magpies boast the best defensive record in the league so far this season and we feel they will hold the Gunners to a goalless draw tomorrow.

It will be an intriguing match up, especially after Newcastle all but ended Arsenal’s top-four hopes at the back end of last season.
