Will Barry Douglas deal end Laurens De Bock’s disappointing Leeds United spell?

Leeds United appear to be on the verge of snapping up Barry Douglas from Wolverhampton Wanderers. According to the Daily Mail, the Whites have made a move to sign the Scottish talent this summer. With Wolves set to replace him with Jonny Castro of Atletico Madrid, a deal appears to be likely.

For Leeds it is exactly what they need. Douglas can play the attacking full-back role that Marcelo Bielsa demands with relative ease.

However, for one Leeds player, this could come as a death knell to his Elland Road career.

In January the club paid Club Brugge a reported £3 million for the Belgian defender Laurens De Bock.

The player, who had flirted with the Belgian national team in the past, looked a fantastic recruit on paper and Victor Orta seemed to have done a good job.

However, it soon became apparent that De Bock was not up to the task. He struggled to adapt to Championship football and found himself consistently outplayed. An injury ended his season in March and Leeds fans were not overly disappointed.

Tom Pearce came in and swiftly established himself with superior performances. With Pearce, Douglas, Stuart Dallas, Gaetano Berardi and even Ezgjan Alioski for competition this season De Bock looks completely dispensable.

It will be no surprise if he heads out the exit door this summer.
