Will Arsenal come to regret missing out on Almiron?

Newcastle United midfielder Miguel Almiron has only played twice for his new club, but already looks to be a bargain at £20 million.

The Paraguay international is still settling in at St. James’ Park following his deadline day move from Atlanta United, but his first few showings in black and white have impressed supporters.

On his first start against Huddersfield Town he made six key passes and had four shots at goal, with one hitting the post. It was a refreshing display, that landed him an 8.08 rating on WhoScored.

Against Burnley on Tuesday night he was lively once again, making two key passes, having three shots and registering an impressive passing accuracy for an advanced midfielder of 88%.

He appears to have hit the ground running, and it’s already looking as though Arsenal may have let a gem slip through their fingers.

Almiron failure compounded by Suarez struggles

Almiron’s agent has claimed his client rejected the chance to join Arsenal in January.

According to Daniel Campos (reported by The Sun), the Gunners could only put forth a loan deal which did not suit the interests of the player or Atlanta.

Instead, Arsenal completed the loan singing of Denis Suarez from Barcelona.

The attacking midfielder joined the Gunners on the same day as Almiron became a Newcastle player, and it certainly looks as though the Magpies did the better deal.

Thus far, Suarez has only made four substitute appearances for Arsenal, and some supporters have labelled him the new Kim Kallstrom after Emery’s admission he isn’t yet ready to play 90 minutes (The Sun)
