Will £6m-rated winger be playing for Leeds or Bristol City in first game of the season?

The Championship’s fixture list has been released on Thursday morning and Leeds United begin their campaign with an away trip to Bristol City on Sunday, August 4 – but one player has a chance of playing for either side.

The Whites travel to Ashton Gate for a 4.30pm kick-off for their first game of the season, before taking on Nottingham Forest at Elland Road the following weekend. March and April boast a tough run of games.

In the space of nine games throughout March and April, Leeds take on Huddersfield Town, Fulham, Cardiff City, Stoke City, Swansea City, Derby County and more. But who could Callum O’Dowda be playing for?

The 15-time Ireland international was linked with a move to Leeds back in January, and has just 12 months remaining on his current contract at Bristol City. He was vague about his future earlier this month.

“I haven’t really been thinking about it to be honest,” he told RTÉ Sport, while with Ireland’s national side. “My season hasn’t finished yet. My main focus will be on these two games so I want to put that to bed for the moment.”

However, The Times have claimed that O’Dowda wants to leave Ashton Gate this summer and is available for a cut-price figure of just £6million. For such a price, that could tempt Leeds to reignite interest in O’Dowda.

Marcelo Bielsa has certainly targeted bringing in wingers this summer. Wolverhampton Wanderers ace Helder Costa is said to be a priority, as is re-signing Manchester City starlet Jack Harrison.

With O’Dowda’s future still in doubt, there is every chance Leeds could go back in for the fleet-footed winger – meaning he could be playing in red or indeed in white when August 4 comes around.
