Plenty of Wigan Athletic fans took to social media after it was announced on the club’s official website that Joe Gelhardt had completed a move to Leeds United on Monday.

Gelhardt’s future with the Latics has been up in the air for some time amid the club’s off-field issues. The Sun recently named five top flight clubs chasing the 18-year-old forward.

And it is newly-promoted Leeds who have won the race for his signature. The Yorkshire Evening Post has suggested that the Whites have paid around £1 million for Gelhardt.

The report also confirmed that the teenager has agreed a four-year deal at Elland Road.

It is obviously a huge blow for the Wigan fans who are, sadly, having to get used to seeing some of their brightest prospects leave the club. Jensen Weir and Alfie Devine have both also moved on this summer.

But plenty took to social media following the announcement to wish Gelhardt well. They got glimpses of the youngster throughout the campaign and they believe that he is going to be a star in the coming years.

There is a lot of disappointment over the fee. But they have suggested that a Leeds switch should be perfect for Gelhardt as he gears up to start working with Marcelo Bielsa.

Bielsa has shown that he has no qualms about putting faith in young players if he deems that they are ready for first-team action.

And while Wigan supporters would clearly prefer to have had Gelhardt stay, several have expressed that they are still excited to see him realise his incredible potential following his move.

Here is how some of the Wigan fans have reacted to the announcement…
