Tottenham reportedly rejected a £20m transfer offer from Saudi Arabia for Emerson Royal due to needing defensive cover for the rest of the season.
The Brazilian fullback was this weekend reportedly subject to a bid from Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al-Nassr, with the Saudi Arabia giant looking to once again flex their financial muscle in the transfer market.
However, to the surprise of many, Tottenham rejected the bid from Al-Nassr, a decision that has caught many off guard given that Emerson isn’t even a guaranteed starter for the north London side.

Yet according to the Daily Mail, Tottenham’s reasoning behind turning down a £20m offer from Saudi Arabia for Emerson was down to Spurs needing defensive cover for the remainder of the season.
Indeed, Emerson has this campaign been forced to play at centre-back back due to a lack of central defenders at times for Tottenham, with the Brazilian doing as well as he can in the role.
And with Tottenham now rejecting a substantial offer for Emerson from Saudi Arabia, it’s pretty clear that Ange Postecoglou has been impressed with what he has seen from the 25-year-old.
Tottenham should look to sell Emerson to Saudi Arabia in the summer

Emerson has shown his worth this season for Tottenham in a big way, with the defender playing out of position and impressing in patches for the north London side.
Yet if Saudi Arabia were to return for the fullback in the summer, it could be hard for Tottenham to knock back yet another tempting financial offer for the former FC Barcelona man.
As we know, £20m for a player like Emerson is quite the bid for a club to make, and Tottenham can use the funds to secure a significant upgrade in the position if a deal was to be made with Saudi Arabia.
