Why Tottenham do not have a game this weekend

Why do Tottenham not have a game this weekend? Many fans are asking as Spurs are nowhere to be seen on the Premier League fixture list.

Every other Premier League side will take part in a match this week – apart from the north Londoners.

So, why do Tottenham not have a game this weekend? Let’s take a look…

Why Tottenham do not have a game this weekend

Well, Tottenham were scheduled to take on Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League this week – Friday night to be exact.

However, the London derby has been postponed due to Chelsea’s involvement in the Carabao Cup final against Liverpool this Sunday.

The Reds still managed to squeeze their Premier League fixture in this week after beating Luton Town 4-1 at Anfield on Wednesday night.

However, the Premier League are yet to find a suitable date to allow Chelsea vs Tottenham to take place.

As shown on the Premier League’s official website, the date of the rescheduled match will be announced in due course.

Presumably – given the fact neither Tottenham or Chelsea are involved in European competition this season – the fixture will be rearranged for a midweek slot in which others are partaking in the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League.

Ange Postecoglou won’t mind

While some Spurs fans may be annoyed that Tottenham are not playing this weekend, we doubt Ange Postecoglou will be too upset.

The Australian watched his side suffer a 2-1 defeat against Wolves without Pedro Porro and Destiny Udogie last week, both of whom are hugely significant players in N17.

Postecoglou did – however – suggest that neither would be absent for more than two weeks, so he will presumably be pleased that the duo get an extra week of recovery without missing further action.

Hopefully, both Udogie and Porro are back for Tottenham’s next game – a clash against Crystal Palace in north London.
