Why the absence of Ryan Sessegnon could prevent a repeat of Fulham’s last visit to Newcastle
Fulham’s teenage sensation Ryan Sessegnon missed last week’s loss to West Ham United with a groin problem and is reportedly a doubt to play against Newcastle United.
The absence of Sessegnon would severely harm Fulham’s chances of victory, possibly preventing a repeat performance from the last time the Whites travelled to St. James’ Park.
In March 2017, Newcastle and Fulham met in the Championship, with the Magpies clear league leaders and the Whites chasing a play-off spot.
Fulham won 3-1 in a season-defining victory, playing Newcastle off the park with Slavisa Jokanovic’s swaggering brand of football. Sessegnon produced the best performance of his young career to date, bagging a brace and infamously shushing the Newcastle faithful.

That two-goal display illustrated the youngster at his best, tearing defences apart with pace and then punishing them with instinctive, deadly finishing.
Yet with the left winger facing an injury setback, Fulham are set to lose one of their most dangerous attacking threats.
Although Sessegnon has taken time to adapt to life in the Premier League, he recorded two assists against Southampton recently and looked to be turning a corner in his top flight development.
With Fulham in desperate need of a win against Newcastle United, Ryan Sessegnon’s injury concerns pose yet another headache for Claudio Ranieri’s men as they seek to lift themselves off the bottom of the league.
