'Why?': Simon Jordan questions Ben White over potential Arsenal move
Talksport pundit, Simon Jordan, has questioned the logic of Ben White in making a move to Arsenal, as reports suggest a move is edging closer.
Reports from The Telegraph this week have suggested that White is on the verge of completing a £50m move to The Emirates.
White, who is away with England at Euro 2020, has emerged as the number one target for Mikel Arteta and Edu. The Brighton man enjoyed a stellar season at the AMEX, building on a fine loan spell with Leeds prior.
However, speaking on Talksport yesterday, the often opinionated Jordan didn’t hold back when discussing the move. And he questioned whether Arsenal is indeed the right move for White.
“Why would he want to go there? With respect to Brighton it’s a step up but there may be other steps available to him that are far more compelling than Arsenal,” Jordan commented.
“If Ben White is now in the international squad and revered the way he is, because he’s a top quality player, why are Arsenal in the mix? Arsenal are all over the place.“
Arsenal are, like Jordan says, in transition. Arteta is once again looking for a number of summer signings. White is one of them, while a midfielder remains a priority too.
And while Jordan can see the value in a move for White, he believes others could be a better option.
“If you’re comparing and contrasting Brighton to Arsenal then yes it is a step up. But if you’re comparing somebody who’s in the England squad that people in the game think is a Rolls Royce, then what is the move he’s making to Arsenal for?” Jordan added.
Are Arsenal right for Ben White or is Simon Jordan correct?
In terms of going to a big club where he’ll play all the time, then yes, Arsenal are right for White.
But in terms of a club who are on the cusp of success and trophies, then it’s a big fat no. Obviously, that could change if Arteta gets all the signings he wants and things start to turn.
But at the moment, the Gunners are a bit of a mess. White is a top young player, so it might be that this is even a stepping stone for him. Arsenal fans won’t like that, but there’s every chance it’s the way it will pan out.
