Fulham’s 18-year-old English phenom Ryan Sessegnon disappointingly was left out of Gareth Southgate’s latest Three Lions squad for the upcoming UEFA Nations League matches.
The snub was exacerbated by the inclusion of Mason Mount and Jadon Sancho, two contemporaries of Sessegnon that were expected to enter the England senior set-up at the same time as the Fulham youngster.
Although the blow of missing out on the England squad will undoubtedly be demoralising for Sessegnon, the 18-year-old will use the disappointment as motivation to improve himself.
The versatile Fulham player is not one to let his head drop after suffering a setback, as Sessegnon’s work ethic is second to none. His maturity and levelheadedness are well beyond his years and Sessegnon will simply tune out the noise and focus on improving his own play.
Sessegnon has found it difficult to adjust to life in the Premier League at times, but has also shown flashes of brilliance and turned in impressive displays that indicate he will excel in the top flight.
With a string of good performances at Craven Cottage, there is no reason why Fulham’s 18-year-old star cannot force himself into Southgate’s plans and gain a richly-deserved senior call-up.
