Some Glasgow Rangers fans were left doing double takes after having a look at Finland’s team sheet for their meeting against Kazakhstan.
Namely, because Ibrox midfielder Glen Kamara – a star for club and country – wasn’t in the squad for the World Cup qualifier in Helsinki.
Given how controversial international breaks can be when it comes to players potentially picking up knocks, some Gers fans were naturally alarmed by Kamara’s absence.
Luckily, Kamara’s absence wasn’t injury-related – he’s just suspended.
The 25-year-old picked up a yellow card against Wales and, given the accumulation of bookings, this triggered a ban.
Finnish outlet YLE confirmed this yesterday, as they spoke to national captain Tim Sparv.
Rangers ace “really important” for Finland
“Glen has been a really important part of our team for a long time,” said Sparv.
“He has played regularly at a very high level.

“Sure, a big loss, but this team has a tough competition for place and we have new young players who have come in and done well.
“I don’t think Glen’s absence is a big problem for us.”
Indeed, Finland ran out 1-0 winners over Kazakhstan, so Kamara wasn’t missed.
A win-win for everyone concerned, really.
Rangers fans are happy that Kamara isn’t injured and has had a bit of a rest, while Finland managed to win in his absence.
Markku Kanerva’s charges are next in action on Tuesday night when they visit world champions France.
